I wanted to give  full review to Scarlet, but I will those who are more professional than myself to do so.

 

What I will say is Scarlet brings a modern light to an age old issue: the ‘brought it on yourself‘ conundrum. I’ve known this situation extraordinary well from my youth but it wasn’t until witnessing the emotional sucker punch that Scarlet socked me with that made me change my mind.

 

Justine Musk quotes in her Ted talk about knowing how saying no and being well aware of the one’s personal ‘deep yes’; I rolled her speech in my head, tilting it. Holding the facets abstractly in my minds eye, I compared this supposed ‘deep yes’ to Scarlet’s victimization, struggle, her  splayed eclipsing of self and, with sad realization, that so many women suffer from lack of internal perspective that Sam Freeman’s work will probably be an affront at worse or uncomfortably chuckled at best.

 

 

Simultaneously, and perhaps unintentionally, Freeman warns how social media is the spot that one will never get clean once a transgression is captured.

Facebook is the medium of slander which is a double slap to those who champion social media by stating ‘They have nothing to hide’.

 

Scarlet isn’t feminist. Men aren’t the enemy entirely; perpetrators yes, but so are women…including those whom she called friend. Scarlet is a mirror that society expects women to be ‘dirty and smiling’. Scarlet asks that if a man can be a slut and not pay for it their entire lives, why should a woman? Who wrote the rules and what gives society the right to keep score?

 

If you’re in London, Scarlet is a must see. And Lucy Kilpatrick? HOLY SHIT, SON. Give that girl a movie!
