Chucks and Cobblestones: Night 2 – The Fight Club Firehouse Theater That Could

So after a full day, I finally followed up with a soul fufiling night. I came to London to quench my dreams of walking her streets, but I also had an alternate agenda: to learn about English theater from the ground up. I wanted to see shows, talk to established thespians and learn outside of a class setting.

During my run of IMHSTD, I contacted the South London Theater just to reach out and learn. There were other theaters I reached out to, but who wants to connect with an unknown American girl? A nobody fledgling? well, SLT thought it a good idea.

Noami kept in contact with me and that night, I got as dolled up as a traveler could and headed over to the Firehouse turned fightclub turned theater. Naomi was not there, but I was directed down to the bar and Chris gave me a tour in her stead. It was awesome to see the costumes, hear the history and see the SLT in its final stage of infancy before it evolves from the 1.8 million pound donation, year long renovation.

My dinner was a liquid one as I performed Gertrude’s monologue on my first London stage, watched new actor perform Macbeth and just have general cheer with the staff about backyard camping and whiskeys.

Dave gave me tips on monologue memorization and Chris gave me tips on agents and gigs.

Long story short: Don’t give up and if I was still in town, go see Scarlet.

And I did, but that is for another tale.
