When I read the concept of ManServants, created by Josphine and Dalal, I laughed out loud!
“Finally, somebody did it! Somebody brought the Host Bar to the States!”
Host bar? Um…YEAH. Host Bars! You didn’t think Japan just had geishas and hostess bars, did you? Host bars are super real and are growing in popularity in Japan, and Korea, considering the low birthrate and even lower marriage rate.
What a lot of Japanese women won’t tell you is that most of the pickings of average men are either spineless wimps or machismo laden dickheads. Sorry, Japan; I received first hand reports; the Host has more charm.
So what exactly is a Host Bar? Well, imagine a world where you can walk in and sit with a man, have drinks, good conversation, maybe dance and you go home. No pick up lines, since all hosts are trained to be gentlemen. No lecherous touching. No spiking of drinks or awkward attempts of trying to get you home. All Hosts are charismatic, warm and witty, though can range in archetypes of nerdy, party animal, the artist, the intellectual and such.
In all my years of traveling between Tokyo and Osaka, I never been in one; not because the lack of bravery or the language barrier, but because host bars are EXPENSIVE. Very expensive, like 1k a night kind of expensive. Forgive me, but poppin’ bottles with dudes and paying the bill is not my type of hype. No person, male or female, is worth dropping a month’s salary unless they are a spouse. Besides, host life is a reckless and dangerous life.
So what I love about Manservants is that it’s Host Delivery! By the rates, it’s more of an economical choice since your rent-a dude does more than just drink and make you feel better; they do dishes, they carry your purse without any manly guff, they help you with other errands and when their time is up, they go home and you’re full of girly good vibes with NO SEX involved. In a world where sex sell, it’s a pleasure to see two women create an avenue for women who just want male companionship without the hassle of dating or impending commitment.
Also nice to have someone cheerfully take out the trash….just sayin’.
So bravo, ManServants! Thank you for having Gentlemen on tap!
